Accreditation

CHAP seal Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP)

CHAP's Standards of Accreditation are based on the key guiding and management principles that:

  • The accredited Organization's structure and function consistently support a consumer-oriented philosophy and purpose
  • The Organization must consistently provide services and products of highest quality
  • The Organization must have adequate human, financial and physical resources to accomplish its stated purpose
  • The Organization must be positioned for long-term viability

CHAP was the first national community and home health care accrediting body to receive deemed status from the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). By approving CHAP for deemed status (in May 1992), the federal government certified that CHAP's Standards of Excellence met or exceeded the government's own standards for Medicare certification. CHAP accredited organizations are "deemed" to meet Medicare conditions of participation because of their CHAP seal of approval. CHAP is a subsidiary of the National League of Nursing (NLN), which allows it to draw upon this organization's tremendous resource base to improve community and home health care delivery.
