I noticed that my elbow was tender last night, and I assumed I had bumped it. This morning I noticed that I have a large red coloring all around my elbow, and it feels like a burn. It is red and hot and tingly. I can move my arm fine, but I am concerned because it doesn't seem to be a bruise. What could it be?

I was wondering if I had an UTI because for the last 2 days when I urinate I have light spotting and mild cramps in my lower stomach when I am through urinating. Thanks for all the info you can give.

What are the symtoms of lead poisoning in adults and is there a cure?

The symptoms you describe regarding your elbow can have one of the following causes - A form of arthritis called "Tennis Elbow", traumatic injury or infection with secondary swelling, redness and heat, and, it also appears that there is fluid in the joint.

Your age, medical history, whether other joints are involved are necessary in order to make a diagnosis. I strongly recommend that you see an Orthopedic physician to evaluate your problem so a proper diagnosis and treatment can be prescribed.

This infection is usually characterized by dysuria (pain on urination), urinary frequency, and pyuria (pus in the urine). Urine would have to be tested to see if there are signs of infection (bacteria). A urinalysis of a clean specimen can be done, or if the symptoms persist and no bacteria are found, the physician may order cultures of the urine and may prescribe an antibiotic.

Vaginitis (infection of the vagina) can also cause a UTI -- such as yeast, trichomonas and bacterial vaginitis.

I would recommend a medical evaluation to determine the cause of the UTI and then proper treatment can be prescribed.

What are the symtoms of lead poisoning in adults and is there a cure?

High lead levels can cause health problems which may include high blood pressure, headaches, digestive problems, memory and concentration problems, kidney damage, mood changes, nerve disorders, sleep disturbances and muscle or joint pain. Lead can also effect the ability of both women and men to have healthy children.

There are oral treatments for lead poisioning that require prescription by a physician -- such as calcium di-sodium edetate and d-penicillamine.

If you have any of the above symptoms or have a suspicion of lead exposure, a medical evaluation by your physician with appropriate screening of the blood for lead levels is strongly recommended. The Westchester County Health Department at (914) 637-4700 can also provide you with information and literature.

The doses of drugs you are taking is within the range recommended. Monitoring by your physician for any required exams or lab tests which may be necessary is important. An annual pelvic examination with a pap smear and mammogram (after age 50) is advisable for all women whether they are taking hormone-replacement therapy or not. Any symptoms or side effects you have should be reported to your doctor. Exercise is also helpful, adjusted to your age and physical abilities. A diet with high concentration of calcium can also be helpful. Consult again with your physician.

When a man has a possible kidney stone, is the penis likely to retract?

This may have multiple causes - pain, nerves that cause the veins in the penis to fill may be affected, drugs that you may be taking, etc. Whether it is temporary or chronic, you may want to consider being evaluated by a physician to see if there are other medical conditions which would cause this to happen.
