I am a 37 yr. old female with a heart history of premature beats. Lately I have been under alot of stress and was wondering whether it has contributed to my recent health concerns. First concern: A little over a month ago a vein in my leg burst which was very painful. The area turned black and blue and lasted over a week. There was a significant feeling of numbness below the area of the bruise. Secondly, last week while spending the afternoon up in the mountains, I experienced a feeling of tightening in the chest area. This feeling lasted for over 2 hours, then there was a sharp pain which almost took my breath away for about 30 seconds. Finally, today, I am losing all strength in my right arm. This problem began about one month ago with feeling of uncomfortableness to slight constant pain to weakness. Please advise.

About 30 minutes to an hour after sex I get a sharp pain in my side and then I bleed really bad. What can cause that?

I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant. My doctor had me take another pregnancy test because she thought that my uterus felt its normal size. My reading for my second test was in the range of 4300. Is this normal? Can you tell me what the normal hcd level is for someone 11 weeks pregnant?

What happens to a patient when taking Zoloft and Ambien together?

Since delivering twins by c-section (about 2 months ago), my left foot has been swollen, I've had a slight fever of unknown origin, and I've had extremely heavy perspiration on my face. What could be the cause of this?

I am 32 weeks pregnant and have this constant pain under my right breast within the ribcage area. The pain is so unbearable that it keeps me up all night long. Went to the doctor, suggested it was a Tylenol 3 w/ codine. It did NOT help. It seems to be at it's worst when I lay down...Help!

After swimming 2 days ago, my 45 year old girlfriend still has pressure in her ears. Please advise of a way to relieve this.

I have NIDDM (Diabetes) and take "Minidiab 5mg" twice daily and "Glucobay 100" before dinner. I believe the Minidiab encourages the natural output of the pancreas and Glucobay slows done the absorption of foods. For the first 6 to 8 months, I could often feel the onset of low blood sugar and would regularly blood test between 2 and 3 before dinner. Now, as opposed to being in the lower to mid range of what is acceptable, I find I am increasingly in the mid to upper or over levels of what is acceptable. My diet is not really any different from when I first started the oral medication. My work and exercise 'load' are about the same but I know I should do more exercise. I do smoke but less than before. I am at the upper end of my ideal weight range and I have experienced some weight gain and I am lethargic now. Time to adjust the level of drugs, change drugs or do something else? Any ideas??

The symptoms you describe may or may not be attributed to several factors. There could be a cardiac problem, possibly a clotting problem or other non-medical causes. I strongly recommend that you see your physician as soon as possible to determine a diagnosis and treatment.

The cause of the bleeding and pain may be related to multiple factors -- your age, and gynecological history. Only after a medical evaluation by your physician and/or gynecologist, can they pinpoint the cause.

A blood B-HCG test depends on the week of pregnancy, but this is not the only method of determining the stage of pregnancy. However, there are other examinations or tests that may be necessary because you can have false positive or false negative results. An ultrasound is another method for determining weeks/age of the embryo. I strongly recommend that you discuss your concerns with your obstetrician. He/she can, by examination, screening, tests, etc., better evaluate your pregnancy status.

What happens to a patient when taking Zoloft and Ambien together?

Taking both drugs requires caution because they both can affect mental alertness, physicial coordination and can cause drowsiness. Ambien should be used for a short term. Be sure to discuss the use of both drugs and the proper dosage with your doctor and inquire what signs or symptoms you should look for.

Your signs and symptoms may be indicative of a number of things -- an infection, possibly a vascular condition, or a hormonal problem. I strongly recommend that you see your physician immediately to determine the cause and what treatment may be necessary.

Sometimes, late in pregnancy, lower back pain is common, especially when lying down. In your case, it is at a higher level. If the medication prescribed does not help, discuss this with your physician and possibly consider a consultation with a neurologist to rule out other causes if the pain is severe and continues without relief.

Swimmer's Ear (Acute Otitis Externa) is due to increase in ear canal acidity and can result in an infection. The ear may be itchy and painful and feel full. The treatment is usually a topical antibiotic with a cleansing of the ear with alcohol-acetic acid mixture. I recommend that your friend visit an ENT physician for diagnosis and treatment.

Diet, exercise and not smoking, as you well know, are very important in controlling Diabetes, along with drugs. In fact, for NIDDM patients, diet and exercise are emphasized as the primary form of treatment. The drugs you are using should not be considered as a substitute for diet and exercise or as a convenient mechanism for avoiding dietary restraint.

Regarding the response you indicated from both medications, only through regular clinical and laboratory evaluations by your physician can the right dosage be determined as well as to rule out any other causative factors. I strongly recommend that you discuss your findings with the physician to receive the appropriate treatment you require.
