I'm a 42 year old man, weigh 210, 5 ft 9 1/2, not in the greatest shape but do OK for my age. I work as a systems administrator for a large firm. The work can be stressful at times. Have a question about the glands below the jaw area. It seems that I have had a right swollen gland for the last 3 years. It comes seems and goes. I thought it was from a Wisdom tooth was giving me problems. But! I had the impacted wisdom removed about 6 months ago.and just recently, the gland became infected again. I also have had several sinus infections within this time also, which has given me a bad case of Vertigo at times. I have visited my physician, and all he does is give me antibiotics for this problem of swollen glands. He really doesn't tell me what's causing my gland to swell. Do you have any suggestions for me? Enlargement of glands can be caused by a variety of diseases. Two thirds are usually due to upper respiratory infections. Your medical history, use of drugs, laboratory tests and a complete physical examination by your physician should determine a cause. Whether a biopsy may be necessary is something you should discuss with your physician. If you are not satisfied with the response you receive from your current physician, you may request a second opinion. My Doctor has prescribed Lithobid 300 mg. ( 2 tablets at bedtime) as well as Celexa 40 mg. once a day. I'm confused...how do the 2 work together? The Lithobid is used for a mental condition - manic-depressive illness. Celexa is used to treat depression. To answer the questions regarding the use of the two drugs, your physician can best answer your questions, since he has evaluated your illness and prescribed this treatment. Today while at work I had severe pain on the right side of my chest. It lasted about 15 min. and I took asprin right away. I felt like I was going to die!! I did not want to alarm anyone so I got up and tried to ease the pain by standing. I still felt the pain. It felt like my liver or something was pushing really hard near my breast, worse than a muscle spasm. Is this something I should concern myself with? From what you described, it could or could not be a symptom of Angina involving the heart. I strongly recommend that you see your physician so he can do a medical evaluation based on your age, sex, medical history, whether you have any cardiac condition or other problem that brought on the chest pain. I have been taking Prozac 20mg a day for six weeks. Over the last week, I have been getting bruises really easily, or sometimes for no reason. Is this a normal symptom, or should I see my doctor? The bruises you are having may not be related to Prozac. Sometimes Prozac may cause sweating or a rash. The bruises may be as a result of another condition which can only be diagnosed and treated after a medical evaluation by your physician. I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was given a prescription for Synthroid. I was diagnosed with this and given this drug nearly 20 years ago and within 6 weeks I was in the hospital with a kidney stone. My doctor doesn't think they are related but I have no history of other kidney problems before or after taking this drug. Should I worry about taking it now? Synthroid is usually not associated with kidney problems. Your physician, based on your medical history, would be best able to determine the use of the drug for you. What does an Endochrinologist do? My wife is being sent to one. She is suspected of having Graves. An Endochrinologist is a physician who specializes in diseases caused by glands of the body which produce hormones. Examples are hyperthroidism i.e. Graves Disease, hypothroidism, or diseases of the adrenal and pituitary glands. There may be no hormone produced, or too much hormone. Depending on the individual's medical condition, treatment is usually by the use of drugs or in some cases, surgery. I have been taking Zoloft for almost three weeks, and I have been experiencing hot and cold flashes and my period is extremely late. I thought I might be pregnant, but when I took a test, it was false. Are any of these symptoms of Zoloft? The drug Zoloft, is used in the treatment of depression, anxiety, insomnia and obsessive-compulsive disorders. There may be side effects involving the gastrointestinal system, headaches, hot flashes, rashes, etc. Alcohol use is not recommended while taking this drug. Caution as to other drugs that you may be taking must be considered, including over-the-counter medications. It is advisable that you discuss this with your physician to find out if there are side effects or symptoms such as the ones you have indicated. Is it common for one to have to urinate a lot with a yeast infection? Any urinary infection can cause frequent urination along with pain, itching and irritation in the area of the urethra.
