I was informed in 1998 that I had the beginning stages of osteoporosis and artrisis in my right foot and left arm. I know over time that this condition will only worsen and I was wondering why at my age of 46, I am suffering with so much pain that it is amost diabling me? I still have children at home and it is very difficult for me to comply with their needs! Can this type of arthritis be crippling?

What are the side effects of aspirin?

My blood pressure is reasonable and smometimes a little high and sometimes a little low. Recently my ears started ringing and I' m wondering if this could have something to do with it. However, for many years I used Q-Tips to clean my ears but I stopped for no reason a few months ago, and now I do not have any external wax in my ears as before. Could it be wax?

I take .125mg of synthroid daily; I just wanted to know what would happen if I didn't take it for a week.

I have a question regarding pregnancy testing. I have taken 3 tests, 2 different brands, same results, the result was the solid pink test indicator line was very bold, the result window line was barely there, extremely faint and light. Two of the test were the First Response brand that could be taken 3 days before the period starts, the other was EPT, that can be taken the day expected to start or any day after. My husband said the lines are to light, very visible and it probably is just where the line should be if it was there one. Do you know anything about these tests? Is any line in the result window a "positive" result or is the light barely seen line just where a line would be in a positive result. Also, I have PCOS and have very irregular or absent periods. That makes it even more difficult to tell. I do not have insurance or I would get a blood test done at my DR. I have to take provera to regulate and don't know what I should do based on these 3 results. Tests I have taken before the test area was plan white. I never noticed a faint line in the test area before. I do plan on taking another test in a week if nothing starts, but would still like advise on reading the test incase I see the same result again. Can you help me read these tests?

I need information on Concerta and Ritalin. Can you help?

It is difficult to specifically answer your question regarding whether your arthritis can be crippling. The best advice is to consult with your physician since he has full knowledge of your condition and what appropriate therapy should be used. Try to read and educate yourself as to the steps that can be taken to help make your condition compatible with your daily activities. Please contact the Arthritis foundation, Hudson Valley Branch at 785 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY, 10605 , (914) 683-0842. They can provide you with literature.

Tinnitus, which is the medical term for ringing in the ear, can be due to many causes. It can be caused by ear disorders, including obstruction of the ear canal by wax, a foreign body, infection, diseases of the inner ear, Meniere's disease, drug toxicity, cardiovascular disease, trauma, etc. Whether your blood pressure has anything to do with your problems is difficult to answer. You should be very careful when using Q-tips to remove wax since this can cause ear drum damage or infection. If your problem persists, please seek consultation with an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist.

Stopping a prescription drug without your physician's approval is not recommended. Use Synthroid only as prescribed by your doctor. Do not discontinue it or change the amount or manner in which you take it except as directed by your physician. The consequences could be serious.

Home urine pregnancy tests have a low false positive rate but a high false negative rate, (the test result is negative even though the patient is pregnant). All urine pregnancy tests are best performed on early morning urine specimens which contain the highest concentration of the hormone indicating pregnancy.

Serum (blood) pregnancy tests are more specific and sensitive because they test for that hormone, even early in the pregnancy. Regarding your lack of insurance, there are several centers throughout the county which provide medical services at low or no cost. The Westchester County Health Department, Ossining Open Door, Greenburgh and Mount Vernon Health Centers are several which do so. Call Westchester County at (914) 637-4700 for information on these services.

I need information on Concerta and Ritalin. Can you help?

Concerta is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant. If not used appropriately, it can cause dependence and abuse. It is used in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children.

Ritalin is also a drug used for the same disorder with the same action as a CNS stimulant. Your pharmacist can provide you with information on these two drugs; their use, side effects and precautions.

The mucus and blood in your stool could be caused by an inflammation of your intestine, such as colitis. You should see your physician to determine if there is a problem and to rule out inflammatory bowel disease.
