Travel Tips for Families including Seniors

These days, large families travel everywhere, often including three or more generations on the same trip! Many elders are on medications for thyroid conditions, heart and blood-pressure ailments, diabetes, etc. It's important, even vital, to time meals and activities around the times required by the seniors to take their medications. In many families, there are both "larks" and "owls," individuals who prefer rising very early or staying up very late. Be sure to plan for everyone's sleep needs on a daily basis. Leave unstructured time that encourages "bonding" with senior family members.

Familyhostel, a division of Elderhostel, offers programs for grandparents and parents over 50 traveling with children ages 8-15. Contact them at 1-800-733-9573, or get more information on the Internet at www.learn.unh.edu
